Several years ago, buy, build and float strategies were fashionable, with lots of people doing well out of them, including vendors who were able to take a share of the float valuation at a later stage.
This route is less common now, but plenty of acquirers are still on buy & build or buy, improve and flip to use the terminology.
Along with trade and strategic buyers, these make good acquirers for stable businesses with a reasonable turnover (i.e. £1m+) and w know what they want.
